In our Artist Workshop Series, local artists share their inspiration and skills with children in a series of free classes.
Join practising artist Niamh Maher as she teaches different weaving traditions from different cultures, including Maori (Raranga) and Irish (Basket weaving). She shares her knowledge so we can understand how weaving has played a part in human connectedness and joy for centuries.
No reservation is required, but spaces will be limited and available on a first-come basis.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Niamh Maher (born 2001) is a New Zealand/ Irish multimedia artist working primarily in sculpture, painted image, and textiles. Employing a feminist lens, she frequents domestic terrain in the materiality of her work, encasing philosophical consideration and concern into objects which may at first appear unassuming.
With a background in Psychology, she addresses concern for the self with the suggestion of an internal partnership which furthers the intimacy of all entities, conceivable or not. Her work imagines the conscious experience as tactile and invites all to hold it in their hand.
